What You’ll Do

  • Lead Signature Programs: Oversee our flagship initiatives — The Fall Tours, Carolopolis Awards, and Preservation Month — ensuring they grow in impact, visibility, and community participation.

  • Educate & Inspire: Develop and deliver engaging lectures, workshops, tours, and digital content that bring Charleston’s stories to life and connect preservation with today’s pressing issues, including resilience in the face of climate change.

  • Mobilize the Community: Serve as one of PSC’s ambassadors — energizing volunteers, homeowners, students, and stakeholders to take action for preservation.

  • Grow Partnerships: Build bridges with schools, universities, cultural institutions, and neighborhood groups to broaden PSC’s impact and inclusivity.

  • Shape the Narrative: Collaborate with our communications team to craft compelling stories that highlight preservation successes and inspire new advocates.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Plan, organize, and execute PSC's three signature programs:

    • The Fall Tours – Homeowner recruitment, volunteer management, house history research, ticketing, and logistics.

    • Carolopolis Awards – Venue, A/V, catering, ticketing, and day-of execution of the awards ceremony and reception.

    • Preservation Month – Developing the month-long series with innovative programming and integrating advocacy and preservation initiatives into the series.

  • Develop program budgets, timelines, and work plans to ensure smooth execution.

  • Coordinate with staff, volunteers, partners, and vendors to deliver high-quality programming.

Education & Outreach

  • Design and deliver educational initiatives for diverse audiences, including lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and community events.

  • Expand community outreach to broaden PSC's impact, cultivating partnerships with schools, universities, neighborhood groups, and cultural organizations.

  • Produce educational content—including videos, articles, and interpretive materials—for PSC's website, social media channels, and publications.

  • In the near-term integrate PSC's Resilience Guidance into public-facing materials, presentations, and programs to foster community awareness and action on preservation in the face of climate challenges.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as a visible champion and ambassador for preservation, building excitement and momentum for PSC's mission across Charleston.

  • Generate enthusiasm and buy-in for PSC's initiatives through compelling storytelling, persuasive presentations, and personal outreach.

  • Mobilize diverse audiences to take action—whether attending events, volunteering, advocating for preservation policies, or adopting preservation practices in their own properties.

  • Create "buzz" and visibility for PSC programs through strategic community engagement, media opportunities, and grassroots activation.
